Parents and children have fun

Today is a holiday in Guadeloupe. Parents and their children have taken advantage of the Pentecost Monday or Whit Monday to go to the beach and the river. A moment of relaxation in family since access to beaches and rivers is allowed during this period of the Covid-19 health crisis. The virus is still here but it circulates less.

History of the Day

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 1 of every year to be the Global Day of Parents “to appreciate all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship”.

It is said that “for the full and harmonious development of their personality, children should grow up in a family environment and in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding”.

We must remember that, in 1993, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 May of every year as The International Day of Families.
